TC56 supply current VOUT 3V), dropout CMOS linear regulator, with maximum input voltage range. CMOS construction eliminates wasted ground current typical bipolar regulators greater system efficiencies, longer operating time batterypowered systems. TC56 enters shutdown mode when shutdown control input (SHDN) low. During shutdown, regulator shut off, supply current falls 0.1µA maximum. Normal operation restored when SHDN returned logic high. TC56 available factoryprogrammed output voltage settings between 2.1V 5.0V increments. current consumption, supply tolerance space-saving 5-pin SOT-23A packaging make TC56 ideal wide variety applications.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
TC56 precision, fixed output LDO. Unlike bipolar regulators, TC56 supply current does increase with load current. Where terms previously defined. Equation used conjunction with Equation ensure regulator thermal operation within limits. example: Given: VIN(MAX) 3.0V ±10% VOUT(MIN) 2.7V ILOAD TA(MAX) 55°C Find: Actual power dissipation Maximum allowable dissipation
Output Capacitor
capacitor from VOUT ground recommended. output capacitor should have effective series resistance less, resonant frequency above 1MHz. recommended that capacitor connected from GND. Tantalum capacitors recommended. When operating from sources other than batteries, supply-noise rejection transient response improved increasing value input output capacitors employing passive filtering techniques.
Shutdown Input
TC56 enters power shutdown mode when shutdown control input (SHDN) low. During shutdown, regulator disabled supply current reduced Normal operation restored when SHDN driven high. required, SHDN input tied VIN.
Actual power dissipation: (VIN(MAX) VOUT(MIN))ILOAD(MAX) [(3.0 1.1) (2.7 .98)]98 10-3 Maximum allowable power dissipation: PD(MAX) (TJ(MAX) TA(MAX)) (125 this example, TC56 dissipates maximum only below allowable limit similar manner, Equation Equation used calculate maximum current and/or input voltage limits.
