This Application Note provides description building Magic Packet-ready motherboard Network Adapter applications. also presents standard signals connectors that used motherboard.
Magic Packet technology implemented system solution. complete system solution comprised motherboard, network adapter card, standby supply, BIOS network management software. motherboard accepts wake-up signal performs power management protocol. wake-up signal will wake motherboard either from standby suspend mode. standby mode, computer alive kicking, with power entire motherboard. power consumption this mode accomplished slowing down processor clock, spinning down hard drives, putting monitor power consumption state. suspend mode, computer usually brought complete halt. stopped
power even removed. entire system powered down, except power management circuit which many cases Super keyboard controller chip Ethernet Controller which receives Magic Packet that wakes system.
POWER MANAGEMENT CIRCUIT
Many have already implemented remote wakeup from standby mode modem ring. When modem called incoming e-mail, (Ring Input) signal COM1 port asserted. signal input Super chip like National Semiconductor DP87307. Figure illustrates example power management circuit.
