Introduction
partnership with Signals Software, Motorola developed G.729 Annex (G.729a) G729 Annex with Annex (G.729ab) speech coder software. This software offers excellent performance variety Digital Simultaneous Voice Data (DSVD) applications, including High-Performance Modem Digital Set-top (DSTB) markets. Background
G.729a reduced complexity speech coder derived from ITU-recommended speech coder, G.729. Annex extension adds Voice Activity Detection (VAD), Discontinuous Transmission (DTX) Comfort Noise Generation (CNG) algorithms G.729a. G.729a provides narrowband speech (300-3400Hz, sampled 8kHz) rate 8kb/s. This toll quality speech coder gives eight-to-one bandwidth saving over standard 64kb/s G.711 PCM.

G.723.1 Vocoder
G.729a less complex than G.729, requiring less MIPS, RAM, ROM, with audio delay (10ms). However, stream compatible with G.729, expense marginal reduction speech quality. This interoperability with G.729 important because G.729 G.729a becoming ITU's most commonly used voice compression standards widely accepted within telecommunications industry. This fixed point implementation G.729a software passes full G.729a test vectors.

code consists initialization processing routines both encoder decoder (including post filter) functions. additional routine, line with specification, performs required synchronization facility (usually only required verify that code passes test vectors). initialization routines called only reset. audio input output format 8kHz linear samples, processing routines called once 80-sample frame. encoder converts each input frame into 80-bit parameter stream, which decoder uses reconstruct signal.
