OPERATING AD7731 EVALUATION BOARD Power Supplies
INTRODUCTION
This Technical Note describes evaluation board AD7731, Process Control ADC. AD7731 complete analog front-end process control applications. device proprietary programmable gain front which allows accept range input signal ranges including low-level signals directly from transducer. part features three buffered differential programmable gain analog inputs (which configured five pseudo-differential inputs) well differential reference input. Included evaluation board, along with AD7731, AD780, +2.5 ultra high precision bandgap reference, 4.9152MHz crystal digital buffers buffer signals from edge connectors.
evaluation board four power supply input pins: AVDD, AGND, DVDD DGND. AD7731 specified with AVDD +5V. Therefore, AVDD voltage supplied board must +5V. This AVDD voltage also used power AD780 reference. board from single supply, simply connect inputs together. Both AGND DGND inputs provided board. AGND connects AD7731 AGND also connects AD780. DGND connects DGND AD7731 digital chips board. AGND DGND planes connected AD7731. Therefore, recommended connect AGND DGND elsewhere system avoid ground loop problems. When using single supply both AVDD DVDD, only ground connection should made board. This connection should made board's AGND input terminal. Both supplies decoupled their respective ground plane with 10µF tantalum 0.1µF ceramic disc capacitors.

LINK OPTIONS
There number link options evaluation board which should required operating setup before using board. functions these link options described detail below.
Link Function
This option selects master clock option AD7731. master clock source comes from onboard crystal from external clock source SKT11. This double link both links must moved together correct operation. With both links position external clock option selected externally applied clock routed MCLK AD7731. With both links position on-board crystal selected provides master clock AD7731.
This link option used determine whether AD7731 normal operating mode STANDBY (power-down) mode. With this link position STANDBY input AD7731 connected logic high thus configuring part normal operation. With this link position STANDBY input AD7731 connected logic AD7731 placed power-down mode where power dissipation typically 100µW.
This link option used select reference source AD7731's IN(-) input. With this link position IN(-) AD7731 connected SKT10. external voltage connected SKT10 used IN(-). With this link position IN(-) AD7731 connected directly AGND.
This link controls polarity serial clock. With this link position AD7731 connected logic high. With this input high, first transition serial clock data transfer from high low. This link should position when operating with evaluation board software. With this link position AD7731 connected logic low. With this input low, first transition serial clock data transfer from high.
This link option used select reference source AD7731's IN(+) input. With this link position AD7731 connected directly output on-board reference, AD780. With this link position AD7731 connected directly AVDD. With this link position IN(+) AD7731 connected SKT9. external voltage connected SKT9 used IN(+).
This link series with AIN5 pin. With this link place, SKT7 connected directly AIN5 pin. This link removed that analog input signal SKT7 connected component grid signal conditioning before being applied AIN5 input AD7731.
This link series with AIN6 pin. With this link place, SKT8 connected directly AIN6 pin. This link removed that analog input signal SKT8 connected component grid signal conditioning before being applied AIN6 input AD7731.
This link series with AIN3/D1 pin. With this link place, SKT5 connected directly AIN3/D1 pin. This link removed that analog input signal SKT5 connected component grid signal conditioning before being applied AIN3 input AD7731.
