TMS320C54x devices that support extended addressing, READA WRITA instructions support 23-bit addresses. 23-bit symbolic addresses loaded into accumulator avoid necessity hard-code address?
Solution
Normally, following assembly code used load symbolic address into accumulator later used READA WRITA instruction: #symbol_name,
load 16-bit symbolic address
READA
C54x devices that support extended addressing, READA WRITA instructions utilize full 23-bit address. However, instruction shown above limits constant symbol_name 16-bits. load full 23-bit symbolic address into accumulator, following code used: READA #symbol_name, #symbol_name,
;load 23-bit symbolic address ;load upper 7-bits address ;load lower 16-bits address
instruction pseudo-instruction used compiler managing 23-bit symbolic addresses. assembled normal instruction, assembler assigns upper bits symbolic address long constant instruction instead lower bits usual. When code runs, extended portion address loaded into accumulator left-shifted bits high half accumulator. instruction assigns lower bits symbolic address constant places half accumulator. result full 23bit address contained accumulator used provide addresses READA WRITA instructions. this solution, assembler version being used must support extended addressing (version 1.20 greater) code should assembled using option.
