INTRODUCTION
This application note explains personal computer transfer code target ColdFire® evaluation board. Compared serial transfers, downloading code target evaluation board through Ethernet reduces time speeds evaluation process. Configuring Ethernet downloads simple fast. order ensure that configuration done correctly, however, important that instructions followed carefully technical terms fully understood.
TECHNICAL TERMS USED
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)-Requires user authentication. Allows file transfers, directory creation, multiple file movement during session. Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)- Allows file transfers without user authentication. Does allow directory creation multiple file movement during TFTP session. Straight Twisted Pair Cable-Used connect node Ethernet connection using hub. Crossover Twisted Pair Cable-Used connect Ethernet nodes without hub. wiring scheme both ends cable follows: RGBXXWXX BWRXXGXX letter corresponds color wire. stands for, connect'. While looking RJ45 contacts, scheme represents wires facing upward direction going from left right.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

NETWORK CARD INSTALLATION
Skip this section planning existing network. Install Ethernet card drivers required complete installation into (any drivers required installation should supplied with Ethernet card). Some cards require drivers other than those that come with Windows®. Once drivers installed, reboot computer. connect ColdFire® evaluation board existing network follow these steps: Contact your system administrator address directions. Specify Gateway address required. configure node network: Leave default settings Gateway, WINS, DNS. Select properties dialog Select network dialog box. Reboot before trying TCP/IP protocol TFTP server.

CONFIGURING TCP/IP PROTOCOL
configure TCP/IP protocol follow these steps: Locate TCP/IP protocol settings within Control Panel. Windows 95®, Start Settings Control Panel open Network icon. Administrative privileges required with Windows systems. Select TCP/IP <network card> click Properties button. Specify address created intranet TFTP server. 90.0.0.1 used personal network address. Note: When using additional network card, connected existing network, verify that address being specified does already exist. verify address does exist, ping command Command prompt (Start Run), type `ping 90.0.0.1'. there response, there probably connect with that address. your system administrator sure. Specify subnet mask TFTP server 255.255.255.0.
INSTALLING TFTP SERVER
Download install TFTP server server will work because requires user authentication). free TFTP server called `NBTFP.ZIP', Motorola ColdFire site located Specify addresses required TFTP server. CONNECTING TWISTED PAIR WITH RJ45 CONNECTORS NETWORK
