This note shows X9312 used implement remote, adjustable regulator. LM317 probably most common adjustable three- terminal voltage regulator today. Often would desirable adjust these regulators remotely, extending adjustment rheostat distance introduces noise instability. Xicor's X9312 XDCP provide simple solution. using this XDCP, voltage output LM317 using simple 3-wire digital interface over practically distance. Figure shows LM317's usual adjustment resistor replaced with version X9312. pushbutton control circuitry would located remotely separate board). adjustment range remotely application changing just remember exceed maximum limit volts.

where Vref 1.25V Rref Rpot value steps. Iadj approx. 50µA current from adjustment LM317 Figure shows control circuitry connected 10pin connector.
