BOARD FUNCTIONALITY
There three options inputting digital data into WM8955 evaluation board. There coaxial input (J19) standard phono connector optical input (U3) standard optical receiver module. direct digital input also available side header (H1). analogue input signals applied evaluation board phono connectors (RLINE_IN1), (LLINE_IN1), (RLINE_IN2) (LLINE_IN2). analogue outputs board phono connectors (ROUT1), (LOUT1), (LOUT2), (ROUT2), (MONO OUT) (OUT3). There also analogue output 3.5mm jack socket (HP_OUT). WM8955 device pins accessible easy measurement headers (J13, J15, J21) running each side device. Level-shift (U4) used shift fixed digital input from CS8427 (U5) down same level DBVDD.

WM8955-EV1M APPENDIX EXTERNAL CONNECTION WM8955-EV1B
WM8955-EV1B evaluation board been designed allow easily connected external platform with error free operation. following information provided ease connection process ensure that signals sent received WM8955-EV1B reliable correct voltage levels.
AUDIO INTERFACE CONNECTIONS
recommended that twisted pair (signal twisted with GND) shielded wires used make audio interface connections between WM8955-EV1B platforms. This ensure that interference noise picked clocks data lines, thus reducing performance reliability. When WM8955 Slave Mode, jumpers header should removed, disconnecting digital input section evaluation board. audio interface timing data signals from platform should then connected shown Figure signals should connected header strips running each side device. Connecting signals output side level-shift (U4) will cause drive contention between could result damage either both devices. most cases, supplies will around power portable applications. inputs level-shift (74ALVC164245) have threshold (i.e. Logic High +2V(min); Logic +0.8V(max)) input current requirements (i.e. 15uA max) allowing most DSP's connect directly.
MCLK DACDAT DACLRC BCLK
Figure Connections from Platform digital inputs WM8955 have CMOS threshold (i.e. Logic High (min) DBVDDx0.7; Logic (max) DBVDDx0.3). These directly level shift outputs. When WM8955 Master mode, jumpers header should removed, disconnecting digital input section evaluation board. external MCLK signal being used (i.e. supplied DSP) then platform should connected shown Figure signal should connected header strip running side device. Connecting signal output side level-shift (U4) will cause drive contention between could result damage either both devices. most cases, supplies will around power portable applications. inputs level-shift (74ALVC164245) have threshold (i.e. Logic High +2V(min); Logic +0.8V(max)) input current requirements (i.e. 15uA max) allowing most DSPs connect directly.

Figure Timing Connections from Platform digital inputs WM8955 have CMOS threshold (i.e. Logic High (min) DBVDDx0.7; Logic (max) DBVDDx0.3). These directly level shift outputs.
SOFTWARE INTERFACE
When using WM8955-EV1B evaluation board with platform, registers using supplied software with parallel port cable shown Figure being used write WM8955 registers well supplying/receiving audio interface timing data signals, then recommended that twisted pair shielded wires used connect platform WM8955-EV1B. supplies same voltage DBVDD supplies WM8955; direct connection made (CSB), (SDIN) (SCLK) header strip 3-wire software mode shown Figure running higher voltage (e.g. +5V) than WM8955, then signals from platform should connected test points (CSB), (SDIN) (SCLK). Connecting higher voltage signals from test points will level shift them through transistors down same level DBVDD supply shown Figure This will ensure that WM8955 input CMOS thresholds (i.e. Logic High (min) DBVDDx0.7; Logic (max) DBVDDx0.3) damage done device. same connections apply controlling WM8955 2-wire software mode (i.e. only (SDIN) (SCLK) header strip used).
