Application Descriptions
Output voltage adjustment Like most regulators, AME1117 regulates output comparing output voltage internally generated reference voltage. adjustable version, VREF available externally 1.25V between VOUT ADJ. voltage ratio formed should conduct 10mA (minimum output load). output voltage given following equation:
Current Limit Protection AME1117 protected against overload conditions. Current protection triggered typically 1.5A.
Stability Load Regulation AME1117 requires capacitor from VOUT provide compensation feedback internal gain stage. This ensure stability output terminal. Typically, 10µF tantalum 50µF aluminum electrolytic sufficient. Note: important that this capacitor does exceed 0.5. output capacitor does have theoretical upper limit increasing value will increase stability. COUT 100µF more typical high current regulator design. adjustable version, best load regulation accomplished when resistor divider (R1) connected directly output AME1117. When connected, multiplied divider ratio. fixed output versions, internally connected output. ground connected side load order eliminate ground loop errors.

Thermal Consideration AME1117 series contain thermal limiting circuitry designed protect itself from over-temperature conditions. Even normal load conditions, maximum junction temperature ratings must exceeded. mentioned thermal protection section, need consider sources thermal resistance between junction ambient. includes junction-to-case, case-to-heat-sink interface heat sink thermal resistance itself. Junction-to-case thermal resistance specified from junction bottom case directly below die. Proper mounting required ensure best possible thermal flow from this area package heat sink. case devices this product series electrically connected output. Therefore, case device must electrically isolated, thermally conductive spacer recommended.
