Modulator Functionality
13.1 Power Supply
device Vccs (pins must applied same time ensure internal blocks correctly biased. bias other before applied device.
13.2 Test Modes
MC44BC375UA test modes enabled voltage level higher than pins CHS, PSS, VIDEO. Care must taken application reach levels higher than those pins.
Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.
13.3 Standby Modes
During standby mode, modulator switched power consumption: sound oscillator, oscillator dividers, video sound modulator sections bias internally turned OFF. Modulator programmed standby mode when PSave/LO "LO" level (See SELECTION section).
13.4 Logic Output Port
Logic Output Port used control external switch (such antenna switch attenuator). This open collector transistor able drive 15mA voltage. level switched between "HI" "LO" level with "Psave/LO" (See SELECTION section).
13.5 Transient Output Inhibit
minimize risk interference other channels while acquiring lock desired frequency, Sound Video modulators turned power-ON from zero (i.e. switched from device switched from "Standby mode" "Normal operation"). There time-out 263ms until output enabled. This lets settle programmed frequency. During 263ms time-out, sound current source 10µA typical speed locking time; after 263ms time-out, current source switched 1µA. care when selecting loop filter components, ensure loop transient does exceed this delay. test purposes, possible disable 263ms delay (see TEST MODES section).
13.6 Video Section
modulator requires composite video input with negative going sync pulses nominal level 1Vp-p. This signal coupled video input where sync level clamped. Video modulation depth typical value given 1VCBVS input level. adjusted lower value simply adding resistive divider video input, resulting lower signal seen video input stage.

13.7 Sound Section
multivibrator oscillator fully integrated does require external component. internal pass filter matched structure give very harmonics level. sound modulator system consists modulator incorporating sound subcarrier oscillator. audio input signal coupled into amplifier which then drives modulator. audio pre-emphasis circuit high-pass filter with external capacitor internal resistor (100kOhms typical). recommended capacitor value (750pF) standards; time constant 75µs. 470pF standards (50µs).
Freescale Semiconductor, Inc.
Audio bandwidth specification 50Hz 15Khz range, with pre-emphasis circuit engaged. Without this pre-emphasis circuit, possible extend audio bandwidth high frequencies there internal frequency limitation (stereo application).
13.8 Section Dividers
