Installing Software Components
mobileGT software tools made software packages from members mobileGT alliance. Included mobileGT Quick Start software from Motorola, CodeWarrior QNX, Neutrino Embedded Systems from Metrowerks, QNX6 Cross Development Windows from QSSL, VisualAge Micro Edition tools from OTI.
Installing Software Packages
There five software installations complete mobileGT. They should installed following order: QNX6.1 Windows Patch mobileGT Metrowerks CodeWarrior mobileGT Quick Start VisualAge Micro Edition Java applications Quick Start
mobileGT Quick Start
mobileGT Quick Start contains several example build images, tools, documentation. install simply setup utility provide preferences when prompted. utility will perform following tasks: Copy example image build files hard disk Copy specific utilities hard disk Create environment variable, MOBILEGT_ROOT, identifying location installation Copy Embedded Planet utilities documentation hard disk
Host Configuration
mobileGT Quick Start software provides development environment embedded systems. provides fully networked system between host target. Using networking capabilities both target host, images easily downloaded burned into flash memory. networked configuration described Chapter that allows compilation application host ability target would desktop system. Three components host have configured: terminal emulator, network environment, TFTP server.
Terminal Emulator
terminal emulator necessary communicate with target. Terminal emulator software, called Hyperterminal, distributed with Windows. However; good terminal emulator should work well. connect mobileGT target system, terminal emulator must follows: 9600 baud with data bits parity stop flow control Once connected mobileGT target system, baud rate changed using PlanetCore utilities. sure baud rate terminal emulator correct. Also, aware that possible baud rate terminal Neutrino terminal baud rate PlanetCore different values.
Host Networking
Both PlanetCore utilities Neutrino RTOS support TCP/IP networking across mobileGT target system's Ethernet port. PlanetCore utility uses relatively simple TCP/IP stack, that download files using TFTP. Neutrino's TCP/IP stack more sophisticated supports wide range services. PlanetCore utility Neutrino simultaneously, they configured separately. However, both PlanetCore Neutrino configured talk host computer. This section explains configure host machine talk with mobileGT software, both PlanetCore Neutrino. PlanetCore utility supports enough TCP/IP protocols TFTP files, doesn't support some more sophisticated protocols, such domain name services (DNS) dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP.) Many corporate networks using DHCP. host configured using DHCP, change static address. Consult your local system administrator avoid address conflicts. necessary know address order configure target. additional information this topic refer section 7.1.
TFTP
PlanetCore utilities TFTP transfer images from host mobileGT target system. PlanetCore utility needs talk driver host machine order obtain files. Several such drivers available. suite networking utilities, including TFTP daemon called Exceed, that Hummingbird Communications Ltd. Copyright sells. There also shareware utilities available. Configure TFTP utility allow read access directory. Refer documentation that comes with TFTP utility details. TFTP daemons typically establish directory which they will look files. When ready download file, copy this directory only, command PlanetCore utility retrieve
Sharing Directories
Neutrino mount directories host machine. During development, this tremendous help. allows execution applications mobileGT target system without having download them into flash. allows access utilities QNX6 Cross Development Kit, Windows Host. networked development image supplied mobileGT will execute netconfig application when first run. netconfig application will create netstart script will offer opportunity mount directories other systems. this will need following information about Windows host: name Windows host address windows host name shared directory mounted name directory will appear mobileGT system. order mount other directories from mobileGT target system, share them from host. share directories, following: Open Windows Select directory that shared. Choose FileProperties from Windows Explorer menu. Choose Sharing Properties dialog. Choose Share type name directory. Select Apply button. share names directories needed when target configured.
Target Configuration
components software loaded mobileGT target system when shipped: PlanetCore utility Neutrino images. These similar BIOS Windows host machine. PlanetCore utility should left mobileGT target system, Neutrino images replaced. Neutrino image that shipped should good starting point. Eventually, Neutrino configuration necessary. Changes made regarding drivers baud rate, once image changed, necessary reload image into flash.
