CDB4811 SYSTEM OVERVIEW
CDB4811 complete, stand-alone digital signal processing (DSP) system based CS4811 fixed function multi-effects audio processor. CS4811 contains on-chip analog-todigital converter (ADC), digital to-analog-converter (DAC), proprietary 24-bit audio processing core with large amount on-chip RAM. CS4811's functionality (changing effects) controlled during runtime rotary switch, allowing different presets selected. hardware control allows ratio processed input signal adjusted. user also level analog input output optimize interface with external audio equipment.
ANALOG OUTPUT
processed output signal mixed with amplified input signal with potentiometer (MIX). Turning clockwise increases amount processed (wet) signal that appears output. mixed output then buffered with output stage that variable gain adjusted 12-turn potentiometer (GAIN TRIM). Turning GAIN TRIM clockwise increases output gain. best signal-to-noise ratio obtained when full scale output CDB4811 matches full scale (non-clipped) amplitude capabilities downstream circuitry (ideally 1.77 RMS). signal-to-noise ratio will decrease when gain output buffer greater than one. differential analog output from CS4811 buffered with 2-pole active butterworth filter U2A, kHz, 0.83 V/V. purpose filter convert output single ended prior mixing, attenuate out-of-band noise generated DAC, limit signal swing p-p. acts shunt attenuate loud pops that occur during power up/down. controlled digital output CS4811 that asserted power-up de-asserted after booted.
CS4811 AUDIO PROCESSOR
processor capable self-loading program from external serial EEPROM memory power-up through control port. this application control port uses format. Since CS4811 based, configured different signal processing applications storing different Crystal supplied application code module into external memory.
ANALOG INPUT
analog input on-chip (J1) single ended, with adjustable voltage gain Adjusting 12-turn INPUT ATTEN potentiometer clockwise will increase input gain. best signal-to-noise performance input gain should increased until just before audible clipping encountered with maximum level input signal. CONTROL
Rotary switch used control various aspects CS4811 code functionality such selecting different musical effects presets. Moving switch position sets that position zero (low). LAYOUT
reference filter capacitor must kept close practical device, CMFILT+ signal trace (pin CMFILT- ground return trace (pin should side board short possible. Keep other traces away from this node, noise coupled into CMFILT+ will appear outputs with little attenuation. board environment noisy, capacitor should added parallel with help eliminate noise coupling. Mount 0.047 surface mount power supply decoupling capacitors close device possible. Again, keep traces these capacitors device supply pins ground pins side board short practical. anti-aliasing filter capacitor should mounted close device practical. shorting capacitor should also close device. digital traces should kept away from analog input output sections board. ground fill used both bottom layers minimize noise coupling ground trace impedance. POWER SUPPLY
Power attached board through power connector positive center contact. unregulated VDC, wall transformer supplied with board. on-board voltage regulator supplies mA@5 system from input. external power resistor used limit input voltage board applications where supply available. applications where available, regulator removed shorting jumper installed R27. this modification done, care must then taken plug transformer into board CS4811 damaged.
