POWER SUPPLIES
Volt power supply, with positive centre miniature power jack, should connected power input connector (J3). This Volt supply regulated onboard Volt supply required Micro-Controller (U7). normal operation power on/off switch (SW1) should right hand (on) position, illuminating "Power (D10).
BOARD FUNCTIONALITY
Header WM8816 Micro-Controller Board should connected directly 10-pin header WM8816 Evaluation Board using ribbon cable provided. keypad (K1) allows input Volume, Balance, Peak Level information which then sent, ribbon cable, Evaluation Board. Micro-Controller used convert user inputs, from keypad, into appropriate digital format described WM8816 data sheet). Components form four-digit display, which used display current Volume, Balance, Peak Reference Register settings. LED's indicate which three display modes being currently displayed.

SETTING VOLUME
volume using down arrow keys marked "Vol.". arrow increments volume 0.5dB steps whilst down arrow decrements volume 0.5dB steps. applied gain varied between +15.5dB -111.5dB. Holding down keys causes output volume level changed faster. When either "Vol." keys pressed, (D7) illuminated, output display updated show latest volume,
ADJUSTING BALANCE SETTING
left right arrow keys, marked "Bal.", used adjust relative loudness each channel. Attenuating opposite channel makes channel (apparently) louder. left arrow shifts balance towards left channel steps. Similarly right arrow shifts balance towards right channel 0.5dB steps. Pressing "Centre Bal." equalises volume emitting from both channels. When balance keys pressed (D6) illuminated output display updated indicate latest setting. Balance settings displayed digit number preceded `R'. letter indicates that left channel loudest channel, whilst letter indicates that right channel loudest channel. following number indicates many dB's opposite channel been attenuated achieve balance effect. example display R45.5 indicates that balance currently towards right channel that achieve this left channel been attenuated 45.5dB. Holding down either left right balance keys causes settings change much faster. maximum volume difference that between channels, current board implementation, 63.5
MUTE
Pressing marked MUTE causes mute option toggled between off. (D8) illuminated when WM8816 muted. WM8816 Micro-Controller Board initiates what data sheet calls "Software Mute" since achieved writing code -112dB digital serial interface WM8816 chip. still possible adjust volume, balance peak level detection settings whilst device muted. However should noted that these settings will only come into effect once device un-muted.

USING PEAK LEVEL DETECTOR
WM8816 Datasheet describes full functionality peak level detector. Pressing marked "P.REF." cycles through, output display U8), values which written Peak Reference Register (0,1,2.255). Once reached display wraps back round zero. These values written instantaneously Peak Reference Register. When output display showing peak reference information first letter output display will (i.e. P102) (D5) will illuminated. order read information stored Peak Status Register user should press marked "P.STAT". left channel output exceeded value held Peak Reference register then (D4) will illuminated. right channel output exceeded value held Peak Reference Register then (D2) will illuminated. left right channel outputs have exceeded value held Peak Reference Register then LED's illuminated appropriate. Users should aware that once output level exceeded reference level that Peak Status Register will remain until read (i.e. when "P.STAT" pressed). Pressing key, other than "P.STAT" switches Peak Status output LED's (D1.D4).
TOGGLING DISPLAY MODE
Users toggle between Volume, Balance, Peak Reference display modes pressing marked "DISP.". This cycles through three output display options, without making adjustments current settings. three LED's right hand corner board (D5, indicate current display mode. This also deduced from first letter four digit display U8). Volume displays preceded either sign blank digit, depending whether attenuation gain being applied. precedes Balance displays' depending which channel currently louder. Peak Reference displays preceded `P'.
SETTING CHANNEL VOLUME CONTROL

Similarly WM8816_EV1B Evaluation Board that being used control Rear stereo pair speakers should have ribbon cable from serial interface header Microcontroller board marked "Rear". Finally WM8816_EV1B Evaluation Board that controlling Centre speakers should have ribbon connection from serial interface header Micro-Controller board marked "Centre LFE". This third WM8816_EV1B slightly different that uses left channel control gain applied Centre speaker right channel control gain applied LFE. Input three evaluation boards come from channel analogue source; player WM8770 Codec.

USING CHANNEL VOLUME CONTROL
keys marked "Front", "Rear" "Centre LFE" select which three WM8816_EV1B currently active. When "Front" pressed then WM8816_EV1B that controlling Front Stereo Pair speakers made active. user inputs keypad will applied this Evaluation Board only. This indicated being illuminated. "Rear" pressed then second WM8816_EV1B, which controls Rear Stereo Pair speakers, made active. user inputs keypad will applied this Evaluation Board only. will illuminated "Centre LFE" pressed then third WM8816_EV1B, which controls centre speakers made active. This third WM8816_EV1B differs from others since left channel controls Centre speaker right channel controls speaker. stereo pair speakers like front rear. Pressing "Centre LFE" once allows variable gain applied Centre speaker. When centre speaker under control Micro-Controller board then illuminated. Pressing "Centre LFE" once more allows Micro-Controller board vary volume speaker. When speaker currently selected will illuminated. Because Centre mono signals balance information written this third WM8816_EV1B Evaluation Board. user attempts balance keys when Centre selected then output four digit display U8). Channel Mode peak reference keys operate before except fact that data written read from WM8816_EV1B which currently active, indicated LEDS D13, D12, D11, D15. Pressing Mute will mute 6-output speakers. Pressing again will un-mute channels restore them their original state.
