AP3700 green-mode pulse width modulation (PWM) controller. specially designed power applications such off-line battery chargers, where needs standby power, space saving cost required. battery charger rated 5V/1A, maximum standby power only 0.18Watt. normal operation, AP3700 switches fixed switching frequency kHz. With current limit capability 420mA, AP3700 directly drive emitter high voltage transistor source MOSFET. When output power falls below given level, enters skip cycle mode reduce power consumption. AP3700 also features under-voltage lockout, overcurrent short circuit protections. AP3700 available TO-92 package.

Function Description
Startup Circuit Figure functional block diagram AP3700, there external pins: pin, pin. typical application shown Figure used both bias supply feedback control. directly drives external transistor MOSFET, also provides initial bias power UVLO comparator. When works mode, auxiliary winding will supply enough operating current. Figure shows start-up sequence VOUT.

CH1:
AP3700 reference switching frequency kHz, frequency deviation ±2.5kHz period 2ms. Figure shows frequency dither influence waveform Current Limit Control AP3700 employs current mode control improve transient response voltage stability. Figure external inductor current through converted voltage internal resistor, this voltage will participate control duty cycle peak inductor current.
CH2:
Figure Start-up Sequence VOUT
VCC/Feedback Control opto-coupler secondary constant voltage/ current controller consists voltage feedback network. When load heavy, voltage will lower enlarge duty cycle; contrary, load drops, voltage will rise reduce duty cycle. Frequency Dither Frequency dither performed periodically spreading single switching frequency into adjacent frequency band, peak energy spread. This technique improve reducing both quasipeak average emissions.
