Introduction
ISL28276 enhanced rail-to-rail input micropower precision operational amplifiers with enable feature. part designed operate from single supply (2.4V 5.0V) dual supply (±1.2V ±2.5V). device capable swinging 0.5V above 5.0V supply (0.25V 2.4V supply) within 10mV from ground. ISL28276 maintains CMRR performance input voltages greater than positive supply. output operation swing within about supply rails with 100k load (reference Figures through 32).
amplifier. Many rail-to-rail input stages differential input pairs, long-tail PFET) NFET). Severe penalties have paid this circuit topology. input signal moves from supply rail another, operational amplifier switches from input pair other causing drastic changes input offset voltage undesired change magnitude polarity input offset current. ISL28276 achieves input rail-to-rail without sacrificing important precision specifications degrading distortion performance. devices' input offset voltage exhibits smooth behavior throughout entire common-mode input range. input bias current versus common-mode voltage range gives undistorted behavior from typically 10mV above negative rail higher than rail (0.5V higher than when equals 5v).
Rail-to-Rail Input
input common-mode voltage range ISL28276 goes from negative supply positive supply without introducing additional offset errors degrading performance associated with conventional rail-to-rail input operational

Input Protection
input terminals have internal protection diodes both positive negative supply rails, limiting input voltage within diode beyond supply rails. ISL28276 additional back-to-back diodes across input terminals. overdriving inputs necessary, external input current must never exceed 5mA. External series resistors used external protection limit excessive external voltage current from damaging inputs. currents, components mounted board using Teflon standoff insulators.

Input Bias Current Compensation
input bias currents ISL28276 decimated down typical 500pA while maintaining excellent bandwidth micro-power operational amplifier. Inside ISL28276 input bias canceling circuit. input stage transistors still biased with adequate current speed canceling circuit sinks most base current, leaving small fraction input bias current.

Example Application
Thermocouples most popular temperature-sensing device because their cost, interchangeability, ability measure wide range temperatures. ISL28276 (Figure used convert differential thermocouple voltage into single-ended signal with gain. ISL28276's rail-to-rail input characteristic allows thermocouple biased ground converter from single supply.

Rail-to-Rail Output
pair complementary MOSFET devices used achieve rail-to-rail output swing. NMOS sinks current swing output negative direction. PMOS sources current swing output positive direction. ISL28276 with 100k load will swing within supply rails.
Enable/Disable Feature
ISL28276 offers that disables device when pulled least 2.2V. disabled state (output high impedance state), part consumes typically 4µA. disabling part, multiple ISL28276 parts connected together MUX. outputs tied together parallel channel selected pin. also internal pull down. left open, will pull negative rail device will enabled default.

Proper Layout Maximizes Performance
achieve maximum performance high input impedance offset voltage ISL28276, care should taken circuit board layout. board surface must remain clean free moisture avoid leakage currents between adjacent traces. Surface coating circuit board will reduce surface moisture provide humidity barrier, reducing parasitic resistance board. When input leakage current concern, guard rings around amplifier inputs will further reduce leakage currents. Figure shows guard ring example unity gain amplifier that uses impedance amplifier output same voltage high impedance input eliminate surface leakage. guard ring does need specific width, should form continuous loop around both inputs. further reduction leakage
