TO-252
These regulators employ internal current-limiting thermal-shutdown, making them essentially indestructible. They deliver 500mA output current, case temperature kept Tc=25°C. They intended fixed voltage regulators wide range applications including local (on-card) regulation elimination noise distribution problems associated with single-point regulation. addition, they used with power pass elements make high-current voltage regulators. PL78M05XJ3 used Zener diode/resistor combination replacement, offers effective output impedance improvement typically orders magnitude, along with lower quiescent current lower noise.
