Typical Application Circuit
Operation description
Initially, after power output pull-up current source turn off. inputs start-up current from power transistor VCC. controls base current power transistor limits collector current (start-up accept current RS2201) power transistor safeguard power transistor. When voltage rises 7.8V, start-up phase completes goes normal operation. normal operation, voltage must keep 4.75~9.8V, outputs 2.5V reference voltage. pull-up current source turns Oscillator outputs OSC1 decide maximum duty cycle OSC2 trigger power supply entering open cycle cover spike value power transistor start-up current. less than 1.8V(about 1.2-1.8V), less wider oscillation cycle is.This characteristics reduces standby consumption switching power supply. external feedback intends greater than 9.8V, internal feedback circuit regular 9.8V.Making this characteristics stable output voltage using external feedback circuit, regulating precise. open cycle, provides base current power transistor, pulls down emitter power transistor adopts slop current drive open current function, when IS=0V,OB open current about 40mA, open current increasing with linear increasing. When increases 0.6V, open current about 120mA. This characteristics makes output current effectively reduces power consumption RS2201). detects designated current, enters closed cycle. closed cycle, pulls down, power transistor turn immediately clamps 1.5V (after power transistor turn off, base reverse bias, breakdown voltage power transistor improved). open closed cycle, power transistor detected exceed upper limit current, upper limit current trigger will firstly forces pull down, duty cycle reduced, protect power transistor transformer. next closed cycle start-up time, when less than 1.8V, upper current trigger resets. addition, RS2201 built thermal protection, when internal temperature above 140, will widen cycle oscillator, that temperature RS2201 will exceed 150. Slop compensation built stabilization open/closed cycle during maximum duty cycle continual current mode RS2201. reduces 4.4V, oscillator turn off, OSC1 OSC2 level, power supply keeps closed cycle. when continually reduces about RS2201 enters start-up phase again.

C5=680pFthe maximum operating frequency about 60KHz. Switching transformer providing operation current RS2201 with operating power supply consults winding commutating output 4.8-9V(6V recommend). maximum value primary peak current switching transformer 0.8A. When demagnetization voltage 140V 220Vac, maximum output power considering power supply efficiency other factors. wide voltage demagnetization voltage 110Vac, little continuous current mode adapted when voltage below 95Vac, maximum output power 18W. choice power transistor: maximum peak value current 0.8A, value power transistor should reach 10@5Vce@0.8A considering open current corresponding detecting resistor 0.75. power transistor should work saturation zone case detecting resistor 0.6V/the maximum value peak current. Even RS2201 thermal protection, high output power needed, would reduce output power output voltage widening thermolysis area considered. when output power high, power transistor thermolysis issue must considered.
