Operating Principle
Functional Description
AS1301 high efficiency noise switched capacitor DC/DC converter that capable boost operation. equipped with built-in coupled H-bridge type switch configurations. Based value output voltage system automatically initiates mode up-switching achieve highest possible efficiency. regulation output voltage achieved regulation loop, which modulates on-resistance power transistors that amount charge transferred from input output each clock cycle controlled equal charge needed load.
Regulation Loop
AS1301 operates constant frequency load. regulation loop power transistors, resistor divider, error amplifier used keep output voltage within allowed limits. error amplifier, including loopfilter compensation ramp, takes feedback reference inputs generates error voltage signal. error voltage then used gate voltage power transistor which modulates on-resistance latter. modulated transistor on-resistance controls charge transferred from input output therefore regulation output realized. Based adjusting amount charge transferred, this regulation concept delivers smallest voltage ripple possible. Figure Functional Block Diagram

Detailed Description
Overload Protection
When output voltage drops about 200mV below battery voltage very high load AS1301 enters overload protection condition. this condition output connected input current limiting connection. Once overload removed, device enters soft start periode ramps nominal output voltage.
Undervoltage Lockout
AS1301 equipped with undervoltage lockout functionality. battery voltage drops below 2.7V (typ) device enters undervoltage lockout condition. device remains this condition until battery voltage high enough enter soft start period. internal hysteresis 100mV will prevent ringing during startup. input voltage climbs back 2.8V (typ) after such condition device will turn-on automatically again.
Shutdown Mode
AS1301 enters low-power shutdown mode when logic low. shutdown charge-pump action halted, output completely disconnected from input VOUT will drop During shutdown output voltage forced higher then input voltage, because permanent monitoring input- output voltage will prevent erroneous current form output back input during shutdown.
Thermal Shutdown
AS1301 offers thermal shutdown, which prevents eventual damage over-temperature condition. Thermal shutdown will initiated junction temperature exceeds 145°C. temperature drops below this value, thermal shutdown will released automatically device will resume operation.

External Component Selection
high internal oscillator frequency 1MHz permits small capacitors both flying capacitors output capacitors. given load value flying- output capacitors well their affecting output voltage performance. general, capacitor's inversely proportional physical size. Larger capacitances higher voltage ratings tend reduce ESR. function frequency too, must rated devices operating frequency. Another factor affecting capacitor temperature. Note: Many capacitors have huge capacity variation over temperature. This compensated choosing capacitor with better thermal coefficient choosing larger nominal value ensure proper operation over temperature.
Input Output Capacitor Selection
critical which type input bypass capacitor CBAT output filter capacitor COUT used, will still affect performance charge-pump. capacitors should used minimize VOUT ripple. Multi-layer ceramic capacitors recommended since they have extremely available small footprints.
Input Capacitor
1.2µF/2.2µF input bypass capacitor such tantalum ceramic recommended reduce noise supply transients. During startup mode change supplies part peak input current drawn device. Output Capacitor
output capacitor charged VOUT voltage during pumping phase. output capacitor introduces steps output voltage waveform whenever charge pump charges COUT. These steps contribute ripple voltage VOUT. Therefore, ceramic tantalum capacitors recommended COUT minimize output voltage ripple. Charge-Pump Capacitor Selection
ensure required output current avoid high peak currents values flying capacitors CFLY1 CFLY2 very critical. 120nF capacitor sufficient most applications. Dependent operation mode AS1301 alternately charges discharges CFLY1/2 While output capacitor produces part output voltage ripple, voltage drop caused flying capacitors affects maximum available output voltage. Therefore capacitors, e.g. tantalum ceramic, recommended flying capacitors well.
