GENERAL DESCRIPTION
ACT6305 high-efficiency synchronous step-up DC-DC converter that consumes just 17µA quiescent supply current capable delivering more than 400mA output current using only three external components. This device achieves typical startup voltage just 0.95V, making this device ideal applications operating from alkaline cells. This device incorporates internal synchronous rectifier, achieves excellent peak efficiencies features proprietary control scheme that ensures high efficiency over wide load current range. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
ACT6305 comprises reference, feedback select error comparator, control logic timers, internal power MOSFETs current comparators. Functional Block Diagram shown Figure

LIGHT LOAD OPERATION
Under light load conditions, automatically enters power-saving mode extending time. This reduces switching losses allows ACT6305 maintain high efficiency across very wide load range.
MAIN CONTROL LOOP
ACT6305 control architecture utilizes series one-shot current sense circuits regulate output voltage with very quiescent supply current just 17µA. cycle begins when falls below ACT6305's internal reference voltage. During cycle, N-channel power switch turned connect node ground, transferring energy from input supply inductor. cycle persists until either maximum time exceeded current limit reached. When either these conditions occur, N-channel power switch turns cycle begins. During cycle, energy stored inductor released into output capacitor load through synchronous rectifier. Once minimum time expires, another cycle begins when voltage drops below reference
VOLTAGE START
ACT6305 uses proprietary start-up circuitry that allows achieve very voltage startup down 0.95V. ACT6305 remains low-voltage startup mode until VOUT exceeds 1.85V. ACT6305 cannot support it's full rated load current when operating low-voltage startup mode, care should taken minimize load current during startup.
SHUTDOWN
shutdown mode, internal circuits including power switch synchronous rectifier disabled, reducing quiescent supply current less than 1µA. Note that shutdown mode path from input supply output still exists body diode synchronous rectifier.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
OUTPUT VOLTAGE SELECTION
ACT6305 uses proprietary circuitry that enables provide three different output voltage options; ATC6305 provides fixed output voltage options 3.3V adjusted over 1.2V range connecting external resistive voltage divider. shown Figure connected resistive divider VOUT 3.3V VOUT VOUT 1.18V (1+R1/R2) output capacitor value should range 22µF 100µF. obtain small output ripple, large capacitor with ESR; ceramic capacitors should used highest performance. tantalum capacitor used, choose only types smaller low-ESR capacitor about connected parallel filter high frequency noise.
INDUCTOR SELECTION
most applications, inductor value should range 10µH 47µH. Smaller inductors provide faster load transient response have smaller physical size, they also result higher ripple current reduce maximum available output current. Choose inductors with series resistance obtain highest efficiency.
BOARD LAYOUT
reduce noise increase efficiency, high current traces should wide direct, extended ground plane should used. Switching current paths should laid tightly possible, with inductor input output capacitors located close order reduce electromagnetic radiation.
