Fault-Protected, High-Voltage Single 8-to-1/ Dual 4-to-1 Multiplexers with Output Clamps
MAX4508/MAX4509 8-to-1 dual 4-to-1 faultprotected multiplexers that compatible with industry-standard DG508/DG509. MAX4508/ MAX4509 operate with dual supplies ±4.5V ±20V single supply +36V. These multiplexers feature fault-protected inputs, Rail-to-Rail® signal handling capability, overvoltage clamping 150mV beyond rails. Both parts offer ±40V overvoltage protection with supplies ±25V protection with supplies Onresistance matched between channels max. digital inputs have logic thresholds, ensuring both CMOS logic compatibility when using single +12V supply dual ±15V supplies.

Detailed Description
Traditional fault-protected multiplexers constructed with three series switches. This produces good protection, limits switches input voltage range much below supply rails, reducing usable dynamic range. voltage side switch approaches within about either supply rail fault condition), switch impedance increases, limiting output signal range approximately less than appropriate polarity supply voltage. MAX4508/MAX4509 differ considerably from traditional fault-protected multiplexers, offering several advantages. First, they constructed with parallel FETs, allowing very resistance when switch Second, they allow signals pins that within beyond supply rails passed through switch terminal. When voltage goes beyond supply rails (fault condition), input becomes high impedance regardless switch state load resistance. Transient Fault Condition
When fast rising falling transient exceeds output (COM_) follows input (NO_) supply rail with only nanoseconds delay. This delay switch on-resistance circuit capacitance ground. When input transient returns within supply rails, however, there longer output recovery time. positive faults, recovery time typically 2.5µs (see Typical Operating Characteristics). negative faults, recovery time typically 1.3µs. These values depend COM_ output resistance capacitance. delays depend fault amplitude. Higher COM_ output resistance capacitance increase recovery times.
