Small size/surface-mount packaging Monolithic reliability impulse noise Make-before-break, break-before-make operation Clean, bounce-free switching Low, matched ON-resistance Built-in current limiting, thermal shutdown, SLIC protection only operation, very power consumption Battery monitor, state upon loss battery Latched logic level inputs, drive circuitry Only external protector required
line card applications. additional pair solidstate contacts provides access telephone loop line test access message waiting application. L7582 four states: idle talk state (line break switches closed, ringing loop access switches open), power ringing state (ringing access switches closed, line break loop access switches open), loop access state (loop access switches closed, line break ringing access switches open), state. L7582 offers break-before-make make-beforebreak switching, with simple logic level input control. Because solid-state construction, voltage transients generated when switching into inductive ringing load during ring cadence ring trip minimized, possibly eliminating need external zero cross switching circuitry. State control logic level inputs additional driver circuitry required. line break switch linear switch that exceptionally ON-resistance excellent ON-resistance matching characteristic. ringing access switch breakdown voltage rating >480 which sufficiently high, with proper protection, prevent breakdown presence transient fault condition (i.e., passing transient ringing generator). Incorporated into L7582Axx diode bridge/ clamping circuit, current-limiting circuitry, thermal shutdown mechanism provide protection SLIC device subsequent circuitry during fault conditions (see Figure Positive negative lightning reduced current-limiting circuitry steered ground diodes integrated SCR. Zero Cross Current Turn
ring access switch (SW4) designed turn next zero current crossing after application appropriate logic input control. This switch requires current zero cross turn off. Therefore, ensure proper operation switch this switch should connected, proper impedance, ringing generator some other source. attempt switch pure with switch detailed explanation operation switch please refer Introduction L758X Series Line Card Access Switches Application Note.
Switching Behavior
When switching from power ringing state idle/talk state simple logic level input control, L7582 able provide control with respect timing when ringing access contacts released relative state line break contacts. Make-before-break operation occurs when line break switch contacts closed made) before ringing access switch contact opened broken). Break-before-make operation occurs when ringing access contact opened (broken) before line break switch contacts closed (made). Using logic level input pins INring INaccess, either make-before-break break-before-make operation L7582 easily achieved. logic sequences either mode operation given Table Table Truth Table (Table explanation logic states.

Switching Behavior (continued)
When using L7582 make-before-break mode, during ring-to-idle transition, period one-half ringing frequency, ring break switch pnpn-type ring access switch both state. This maximum time after logic signal INRING transitioned that ring access switch waiting next zero current cross, close. During this interval, current that limited break switch current-limit value will sourced from ring node SLIC. This current presented internal protection circuit.
SCR-type protector used code) random probability ring-to-idle transition occurs during portion ring cycle when ringing voltage exceeds protection circuit turn-on voltage. Current excess SCR's turn-on current also available.
Once triggered SLIC capable supplying current excess holding current, latched SLIC. probability this event depends characteristics given SLIC holding current L7582A device. hold current distribution designed safely away from test limit higher distribution, lower probability latch. this situation concern given board design, either series device break-before-make mode (eliminates original current pulse) series device (eliminates SCR).

Notes: Break-before-make operation also achieved using input. lines three Table instead using logic input pins force state, force ground. This will override logic inputs also force state. Hold this state During this state, toggle inputs from (ringing state) (idle/talk state). After release return switch control input pins which will idle talk state. When using L7582 this mode, forcing ground will override INPUT pins force state. Setting will allow switch control logic INPUT pins. However, setting will also disable thermal shutdown mechanism. This recommended. Therefore, allow switch control logic INPUT pins, allow float. Thus, when using input, recommended states (overrides logic input pins forces state) float (allows switch control logic input pins thermal shutdown mechanism active). This require open collector buffer Also note that operation L7582 different than operation L7581, where application does disable thermal shutdown mechanism.
Power Supplies
Both battery supply brought onto L7582. L7582 requires only supply switch operation; that state control powered exclusively supply. Because this, L7582 offers extremely power dissipation, both idle active states. battery voltage used switch state control. battery used reference voltage integrated secondary protection circuit. When voltage TBAT RBAT drops below battery, integrated will trigger, thus preventing fault-induced overvoltage situations TBAT/RBAT nodes.
L7582 designed such that device will enter state battery rises above will remain until battery drops below Monitoring battery automatic shutdown feature will draw small current from battery, typically This will slightly overall power dissipation device.
Impulse Noise
Using L7582 will minimize possibly eliminate contribution overall system impulse noise that associated with ringing access switches. Because this characteristic L7582, necessary incorporate zero cross switching scheme. This ultimately depends upon characteristics individual system best evaluated board level.
Loss Battery Voltage
additional protection feature, L7582 monitors battery voltage. Upon loss battery voltage, L7582 will automatically enter state remain that state until battery voltage restored.

During power cross event, current that passed through break switches presented integrated protection circuit subsequent circuitry limited current-limit response break switches (assuming idle/talk state). current limit specified over temperature between Note that current-limit circuitry negative temperature coefficient. Thus, device subjected extended power cross, value current seen TBAT/RBAT will decrease device heats fault current. sufficient heating occurs, temperature shutdown mechanism will activate device will enter mode. Temperature Shutdown Mechanism When device temperature reaches minimum thermal shutdown mechanism will activate force device into state, regardless logic input pins. TSD, when used output, will read when device thermal shutdown mode +VDD during normal operation. During lightning event, relatively short duration, thermal shutdown will typically activate. During extended power cross, device temperature will rise cause device enter thermal shutdown mode. This forces mode, current seen TBAT/RBAT drops zero. Once thermal shutdown mode, device will cool exit thermal shutdown mode, thus reentering state prior thermal shutdown. Current, limited current-limit value, will again begin flow device heating will begin again. This cycle entering exiting thermal shutdown will last long power-cross fault present. magnitude power great enough, external secondary protector could trigger, thereby shunting current ground. L7582, thermal shutdown mechanism disabled forcing +VDD. This functionality differs from L7581, whose thermal shutdown mechanism cannot disabled.
