Introduction
Thank purchasing VisualDSP® Emulation Tools. This Emulation Tool suite supports Analog Devices JTAG ADSP218x DSPs. This software contains support White Mountain Universal Emulators. software provides controlled environment observing, debugging, testing activities target system connecting directly target processor through emulator interface. Features this software follows:

Installation Configuration
This section provides information required installing this software into your Prior installing this software must install your emulator hardware. Please refer Emulator Hardware User's Guide. Installation Note: install this software into workstation must have administrator privileges target machine must logged Administrator. Insert your VisualDSP Emulation Tools into drive wish install this software. installation program contained select appropriate emulation component pertaining your emulation hardware. Please reboot machine prompted
Base Address (JTAG Emulator)
(For Apex-ICE, Trek-ICE, Mountain-ICE Summit-ICE) 3.2.1 Windows 95/98/2000 Users
Please refer your White Mountain emulator hardware user's guide.
3.2.2 Windows Users
Click "Start" button. Select "Settings" then "Control Panel." Double-click "DSP Emulators" icon.

This will display Emulators control panel applet. Here, available emulators listed along with address which been assigned. This address that should used when setting JTAG Configurator utility.

"Settings" button will only work with ISA-based emulators. Here change emulator's address remove emulator. changes made here will require reboot. Software Operation (JTAG Emulator) Prior starting debugger with emulator, must JTAG Configurator utility. This utility allows users identify their JTAG interface configuration, i.e., what JTAG chain looks like from your target board JTAG connector. information required JTAG Configurator operate debugger software found VisualDSP User's Guide included with software distribution.

this point will define layout your target board. either select "Platform Template" create "Platform" shown figure either double-clicking template highlighting then clicking "copy", will placed under platforms window. Select "New" create platform.

Once have selected name your platform, emulator, description platform, address, will need define many processors that reside your target board shown figure Select "Modify" make changes current device select "New" device.

Software Operation (ADSP-218x-DSP Serial Port Emulator)
3.4.1 Activating 218x Session First Time
communications settings dialog appears, prompting what port, BAUD rate your 218x EZ-ICE using. This dialog selects various communications parameters EZ-ICE. Figure displays default settings ADSP-218x EZ-ICE serial

emulator. Please select Port desired. unsure about which Port your EZ-ICE connected "Auto/Search" feature clicking "Auto/Search" button following prompts. Once EZ-ICE been found, "COM Port" setting will change reflect port where EZ-ICE found. Select desired BAUD Rate. Then click "OK" enable your selections. NOTE: highest possible BAUD rate best results when debugging. your computers serial port connection cannot maintain reliable communications speed selected, will prompted reduce your BAUD rate. VisualDSP emulation software queries EZ-ICE firmware version updates necessary. Simply follow instructions presented VisualDSP debugger. prepared press your 218x EZ-ICE reset button when prompted.
3.4.2 Verbose Errors
"Verbose Errors" check allows turn certain noncritical warnings. Warnings generated when user single steps do-until loop, idle idle(n) last instruction do-until loop, various other non-fatal warnings.
