This adapter designed easy installation use. provides high-performance interconnection between Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) peripheral devices. Hardware Requirements Your computer needs: available expansion slot lcast 3.5inch floppy drive power internal subsystems will need more following cables: 6%pin cable with high-density connector connect FlashPoint external devices. 68.pin ribbon cable connect internal wide devices FlashPoint 50-pin flat ribbon cable connect internal narrow devices FlashPoint peripherals attaching FlashPoint should least SCSI-2 Common Command (CCS) compatible. Software Requirements need: Device Setup, Partition, Format Software Mylex provides low-level format utility part onboard adapter configuration. addition, need high-level formatting tools. Refer documentation accompanying peripheral device additional information. Operating System Software FlashPoint adapter offers drivers these operating systems: PC-DOS MS-DOS, Windows 3.x,
Windows Windows 3.5x, Novell NetWare, OS/2 Warp, UNIX, UnixWare, Solaris, others. Tools following items needed when installing adapter your system: Small screwdriver Host system hardware manuals manuals peripheral devices being installed.
Step Install adapter
Installation
Step Prepare host system adapter Insert adapter into selected empty slot. Press FlashPoint into slot, align mounting bracket, reinstall mounting screw. Caution: Make sure board properly seated slot. Step Install internal devices cables
Warning: Before handling FlashPoint adapter, take precautions avoid damage from electrostatic discharge. Either grounding strap, touch your computer metal part discharge static electricity before handling board. Always hold board edges, even after static electricity discharged. Unpack adapter. Power down unplug host system. Remove exterior cover from host system locate empty slot. Remove mounting screw existing bracket from rear panel behind selected slot.
Internal wide devices require 6%pin flat ribbon cable. ribbon cable included with FlashPoint install internal devices. Install ribbon cable 6%pin SCSI p-connector FlashPoint host adapter.
Install next connector ribbon cable first SCSI device. other devices installed this device must terminated. Consult owner's manual information terminate device. second internal device included internal installation, terminate this first device. default configuration device terminated, consult owner's manual disable termination. install second internal device, install last connector ribbon cable second SCSI device. This device must then terminated. Internal narrow devices require 50-pin flat ribbon cable. ribbon cable install internal devices. Install cable (optional) Insert two-pin header connector from drive active front panel host connector FlashPoint
Step Install external devices cables
External devices connected using 6%pin cable with high-density connector. Connect SCSI cable adapter SCSI connector other SCSI device. devices total included SCSI bus. Devices attached daisy chain configuration until maximum devices reached. last device daisy chain must terminated. intermediate devices should terminated should have termination disabled. Step Power system When cabling device termination complete, reassemble power system. system powers BIOS performs self test. Indication error conditions that arise from self test displayed start-up screen. Should encounter conditions that cannot resolve, contact Mylex Customer Service. Step Verify devices FlashPoint adapter comes with onboard configuration utility, AutoSCSI.r", which resides Flash Memory. AutoSCSl menu-based tool configuring Mylex SCSI host adapters. AutoSCSl change SCSI BIOS-related configuration parameters. addition simplified configuration, AutoSCSl offers diagnostics disk utilities. FlashPoint Host Adapter User's Guide information about this program verify connected devices. Step hard drives Most off-the-shelf hard drives pre-formatted. this case, your drive requires low-level format indicated error conditions, low-level format utility included with onboard AutoSCSl utility described FlashPoint Host Adapter User's Guide. Once hard drive low-level formatted, will need create partition multiple partitions) highlevel format partition(s) prepare your drive operating system installation. Your operating system incorporate these partitioning high-level format functions part installation offer them separate utilities. example, provides FDISK FORMAT utilities suite. Step Install device drivers necessary install device drivers your operating system. SW-200 FlashPoint Software Guide detailed instructions.
Important Setup Considerations Setting SCSI Peripheral Devices Each SCSI device must assigned unique SCSI ranging from through Your Mylex adapter default SCSI FlashPoint adapter supports SCAM Level your peripheral device SCAM compliant, FlashPoint adapter will determine available SCSI assign device. Note: SCAM support disabled rl&~ult. emhle this option, please AuroSCSI. SCSI peripheral devices that SCAM compliant shipped with pre-assigned SCSI number. change this necessary. SCSI switch usually located back panel such devices. form jumper block switch whose setting indicates SCSI need change SCSI peripheral devices, refer instructions owner's manual device.
Note: Rrrnetnbcr your boot device must have lo~w~ FlashPoirlt
default SCSI SCSI termination first last SCSI devices connected SCSI must have terminators installed and/or enabled. FlashPoint adapter supports both internal external devices. more than SCSI devices connected SCSI daisy chain (the adapter considered device chain), remove disable terminator resistor pack middle devices.
When attaching internal devices only, last device chain must terminated. FlashPoint automatically terminates other SCSI bus.
When attaching external devices only, last device chain must terminated. FlashPoint automatically terminates other SCSI bus. Both internal external devices attached same FlashPoint adapter. last device either SCSI (one internal external end) must terminated. FlashPoint automatically disables termination ensure SCSI integrity. Illegal configuration involves connecting FlashPoint adapter middle SCSI ribbon cable. FlashPoint adapter must connected ribbon cable.
