LA4165M Functional Description [Preamp] frequency response characteristic noise preamplifier selected record/playback select CONT (pin 20). CONT taken ground select record mode, frequency response flat. CONT left open, playback mode selected preamp response curve. [Power Amp] power amplifier suited driving speakers earphones. [ALC] (Automatic Level Control) circuit active recording mode. detects power output level, controls preamplifier input gain that power output level constant. [VOX CONT VOX] This circuit monitors power output level, turns motor drive off. When CONT circuit operating, drive output active. extinguished supply voltage drops 1.8V. [GVN] Motor control circuit. external constants determined according motor characteristics keep motor speed constant. Circuit Components function each component, together with recommended values parentheses, listed below. (2200 4700 Determines frequency response signal voltage record/replay head during recording. value should selected according characteristics head. (4700 Determines playback equalization frequency response. (2200 Suppresses high-frequency oscillation. (2200 4700 Controls high-frequency characteristics. will interact with reduce power input level large. (2200 4700 Microphone input high-frequency filter. This should selected according high-frequency cut-off value C21. (470 Couples power output speaker headphones. value adequate when using speaker headphones. Suppresses oscillation. low-temperature operation (down -10°C), 0.47 tantalum electrolytic capacitor should used. control smoothing filter. should large, since this will also increase attack time. (0.1 Voice sensor (VOX) control smoothing filter. should large, since this will also increase turn-on delay (the time motor drive circuit turn after microphone input voltage reaches level).

Voice sensor transient suppression. This prevents motor drive from being turned large transient pulses. Determines time constant motor drive hold after voice sensor circuit turns off. motor drive remains approximately seconds resistor parallel with (4.7 Together with series resistor determines preamp low-frequency cut-off. =4.7 R8=100 cut-off approximately cut-off approximately giving value respectively. (0.47 Preamp input coupling capacitor. (2200 µpF) suppression capacitor. Select this according characteristics record/play head. (3300 Microphone input high-frequency filter. (220 Reference voltage decoupling capacitor. (220 Head supply ripple filter. (220 Supply decoupling capacitor. Reference resistor (R7) bypass capacitor. Setting should performed according motor characteristics. Load (motor) bypass capacitor. Setting should performed according motor characteristics. Determines flow current through head. Select this according head characteristics level. (820 Determines microphone input level which voice sensor starts operating when minimum. Larger values give voice sensor operation lower microphone input signal levels. Improves high-frequency response reduces high-frequency distortion. Distortion above increases decreases. (100 Determines recovery time. (300 Voice sensor circuit control current resistor. form motor drive hold-time constant. Determines motor speed. Select this according motor characteristics value variable resistor VR2.
