MAX5712 small footprint, low-power, 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that operates from single +2.7V +5.5V supply. Detailed Description
MAX5712 voltage output, 12-bit DAC, offers full 12-bit performance small 6-pin SOT23 package. SOT23 footprint less than 9mm2. MAX5712 less than 1LSB differential nonlinearity error, ensuring monotonic performance. device uses simple 3-wire, SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE DSP-compatible serial interface that operates 20MHz. MAX5712 incorporates three shutdown modes, making ideal low-power. down upon wake-up, output restored pre-power-down voltage. Power-On Reset MAX5712 circuit DACs output zero when first applied. This ensures that unwanted output voltages will occur immediately following system start-up, such after loss power. Upon initial power-up, internal power-onreset circuit ensures that registers cleared, powered-down, output terminated 100k resistor. recovery time after issuing wake-up command needed before writing registers.

MAX5712 consists resistor string, output buffer, circuit. Monotonic digital analog conversion achieved using resistor string architecture. Since reference MAX5712, accuracy depends accuracy VDD. bias current MAX5712 allows power supplied voltage reference such MAX6030. 12-bit code binary-unipolar with 1LSB VDD/4096. Output Buffer output buffer rail-to-rail output capable driving resistive load parallel with 200pF capacitive load. With capacitive load 200pF, output buffer slews 0.5V/µs. With 1/4FS 3/4FS output transition, amplifier output settles 1/2LSB less than 10µs when loaded with parallel with 200pF. buffer amplifier stable with combination resistive loads greater than capacitive loads less than 200pF. 3-Wire Serial Interface
MAX5712 digital interface standard 3-wire connection compatible with SPI/QSPI/MICROWIRE/DSP interfaces. chip-select input (CS) frames serial data loading DIN. Immediately following high-tolow transition, data shifted synchronously latched into input register falling edge serial clock input (SCLK). After bits have been loaded into serial input register, transfers contents latch. then either held brought high. must brought high minimum 80ns before next write sequence, since write sequence initiated falling edge keeping during first SCLK cycles discards input data. serial clock (SCLK) idle either high between transitions. Figure shows complete 3-wire serial interface transmission. Table lists serial-interface mapping.

Shutdown Modes
MAX5712 includes three software-controlled shutdown modes that reduce supply current below 1µA. three shutdown modes, connected through resistor. Table lists three shutdown modes operation.
Digital Inputs Interface Logic

Applications Information
Device Powered External Reference
MAX5712 generates output voltage proportional VDD, coupling power supply noise output. circuit Figure rejects this power-supply noise powering device directly with precision voltage reference, improving overall system accuracy. MAX6030 (+3V, 75ppm) MAX6050 (+5V, 75ppm) precision voltage references ideal choices low-power requirements MAX5712. This solution also useful when required full-scale output voltage less than available supply voltages.
Power-Supply Bypassing Layout
