2919 DUAL FULL-BRIDGE MOTOR DRIVER
A2919SB A2919SLB motor drivers designed drive both windings bipolar stepper motor bidirectionally control motors. Both bridges capable sustaining include internal pulse-width modulation (PWM) control output current outputs have been optimized output-saturation voltage drop (less than total source plus sink mA). current control, maximum output current determined user's selection reference voltage sensing resistor. logic-level inputs select output current limits 41%, 67%, 100% maximum level. PHASE input each bridge determines load current direction. bridges include both ground clamp flyback diodes protection against inductive transients. Internally generated delays prevent cross-over currents when switching current direction. Special power-up sequencing required. Thermal protection circuitry disables outputs chip temperature exceeds safe operating limits. A2919SB supplied 24-pin dual in-line plastic batwing package with copper lead-frame heat sinkable tabs improved power dissipation capabilities. A2919SLB supplied 24-lead surface-mountable SOIC. Their batwing construction provides maximum package power dissipation smallest possible construction. A2919SB/SLB available operation from -40°C +85°C. order, change suffix from 'S-' 'E-'. These devices also available special order operation +125°C. applications requiring quarter-step operation, desire lower detent running current, similar UDN2916B/EB/LB preferred.

APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
CURRENT CONTROL
A2919SB/SLB dual bridges designed drive both windings bipolar stepper motor. Output current sensed controlled independently each bridge external sense resistor (RS), internal comparator, monostable multivibrator. When bridge turned current increases motor winding flows through external sense resistor until sense voltage (VS) reaches level comparator's input: ITRIP VREF/10 comparator then triggers monostable, which turns source driver bridge. actual load current peak will slightly higher than trip point (especially low-inductance loads) because internal logic switching delays. This delay (td) typically After turn-off, motor current decays, circulating through ground-clamp diode sink transistor. source driver's time (and therefore magnitude current decrease) determined monostable's external timing components, where toff RTCT within range 1000 When source driver re-enabled, winding current (the sense voltage) again allowed rise comparator's threshold. This cycle repeats itself, maintaining average motor winding current desired level. Loads with high distributed capacitances cause current spikes capable tripping comparator, resulting erroneous current control. external RCCC time delay should used delay action comparator. Depending load type, many applications will require these external components (SENSE connected

LOGIC CONTROL OUTPUT CURRENT
logic level inputs allow digital selection motor winding current 100%, 67%, 41%, maximum level table. output current condition turns drivers bridge used OUTPUT ENABLE function.
GENERAL
PHASE input each bridge determines direction motor winding current flows. internally generated deadtime (approximately prevents crossover currents that occur when switching PHASE input. four drivers bridge output turned between steps resulting fast current decay through internal output clamp flyback diodes. fast current decay desirable half-step high-speed applications. PHASE, inputs float high. Varying reference voltage (VREF) provides continuous control peak load current micro-stepping applications. Thermal protection circuitry turns drivers when junction temperature reaches +170°C. only intended protect device from failures excessive junction temperature should imply that output short circuits permitted. output drivers reenabled when junction temperature cools +145°C. A2919SB/SLB output drivers optimized output saturation voltages-less than total (source plus sink) Under normal operating conditions, when combined with excellent thermal properties batwing package design, this allows continuous operation both bridges simultaneously

These logic level inputs greatly enhance implementation µP-controlled drive formats. During half-step operations, allow control motor constant torque between positions eight-step sequence. This accomplished digitally selecting 100% drive current when only phase drive current when phases Logic highs both turn drivers allow rapid current decay. During quarter-step operation, allow control motor position sixteen-step sequence. This accomplished digitally selecting drive current shown table (for quadrant operation). Logic highs both turn drivers allow rapid current decay. logic control inputs also used select reduced current level (and reduced power dissipation) `hold' conditions and/or increased current (and available torque) start-up conditions.
