XR16V794 XR16V794 High Performance 2.25V to 3.63V Quad UART with Fractional Baud Rate Generator Ideal for High Speed Data Transmission at Low Voltages T he XR16V794 XR16V794¹ (V794) is a 2.25V to 3.63V quad Universal Asynchronous Receiver and Transmitter (UART) with 5V tolerant serial (modem) inputs. The highly integrated device is designed for high bandwidth requirement in communication systems. The global interrupt source register provides a complete interrupt status indication for all 4 channels which speed up interrupt parsing. Each UART has its own 16C550 16C550 compatible set of configuration registers, TX and RX FIFOs of 64 bytes, fully programmable TX and RX FIFO trigger levels, TX and RX FIFO level counters, automatic RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR hardware flow control with programmable hysteresis, automatic software (Xon/Xoff) flow control, RS-485 RS-485 half-duplex direction control with programmable turn-around delay, Intel or Motorola bus interface and sleep mode with a wake-up indicator. The XR16V794 XR16V794 has several features that greatly simplify hardware and software design. The fifth generation flat register set reduces software development efforts. The V794 also has a global interrupt source register, which provides for faster interrupt servicing and improves overall efficiency. The register monitors which UART channel has an interrupt service request, and reports whether the UART channel transmitter or receiver requires servicing. The V794 enables the transfer of more data bytes in each interrupt service thus reducing the CPU bandwidth requirements. The RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR automatic hardware and software flow control feature maximizes data throughput for higher system performance.
