Boost audio quality to hi-fi level STw5201, 24-bit/103 dB SNR stereo audio DAC The STw5201 is a 24-bit, high-quality DAC for portable applications, with an amazing 103 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the whole audio path. The power consumption can be scaled down by adjusting the audio quality from 103 to 97 dB SNR (4-steps). The STw5201 is easy to integrate as it can be directly supplied by the battery. Advanced IPs are included to reduce the numbers of external components and the footprint, including the headset driver with no coupling capacitors, as well as a low power PLL generating the DAC clocks from the 32 kHz RTC clock with no need of additional quartz. Very few external components are needed. No decoupling capacitors are required for the headset amplifier. The device can be driven either by the system clock (mode A) or by the 32 kHz RTC clock (mode B). - In mode A, a clock, from 13 MHz, up to 38.4 MHz drives the device. - In mode B, the device is driven by the 32 kHz RTC clock only and is able to generate a system clock (26, 52, 69 or 104 MHz), allowing to switch-off the platform RF PLL, leading to further power saving in playback mode. The sample rate converter manages sampling rates from 8 to 192 kHz. A 4-step register scales down the IC power consumption together with the dynamic range. By adjusting it from 103 to 97 dB, for example, the power consumption is typically reduced by 27%, from 37 to 27 mW. To facilitate the implementation of the device software within a system, the application package also includes a set of physical device drivers (PDD, low-level drivers) as well as logical device drivers (high-level device drivers for OS support) which, when applied, put the device directly into the possible configurations and use cases.
