PRODUCT SUMMARY SKY74760 SKY74760: Single-Band, Single-Mode Transmitter for Korean PCS Mobile Handset Applications Applications Description · Single-band, single-mode KPCS handsets The SKY74760 SKY74760 transmitter is a highly integrated device designed for use in single-band, single-mode Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile handset applications for PCS-Korea (KPCS). The device includes a silicon direct upconversion transmitter, an interstage transmit Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filter, and a Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuit (MMIC) Power Amplifier (PA). The device meets (and exceeds) the stringent CDMA linearity requirements up to 28 dBm output power. The transmit path implements a direct upconversion architecture that eliminates Intermediate Frequency (IF) components. The incoming CDMA baseband signal is upconverted to the desired RF frequency by the In-Phase and Quadrature (I/Q) modulator and amplified by the PA driver stage to provide variable output power. The signal is filtered by the interstage transmit SAW filter and sent to the PA to obtain the final rated power. The only external components needed to complete a CDMA radio subsystem are supply bypass capacitors and filtering capacitors at the I/Q inputs. The Phase Lock Loop (PLL) filter and bias resistors have been included on-chip. The state of the PA is controlled by the transmitter, which eliminates the need for external switches to enable/disable the PA and control its gain. Together with the SKY74660 SKY74660 receiver, the SKY74760 SKY74760 forms a complete CDMA RF radio solution, enabling the smallest RF footprint in the industry. The SKY74760 SKY74760 transmitter is fully compliant with the advanced CDMA standard, Evolution Data Only (1xEV-DO), Rev. 0. A functional block diagram for the SKY74760 SKY74760 is shown in Figure 1.
