May 19, 2004 Week 102 Application: 10G Ethernet for Servers; Switches; Storage and Routers SaRonix Devices: SEL381X SEL381X; SDS381X SDS381X; SEL383X SEL383X; SEL393X SEL393X Oscillators Overview SaRonix Solution Ethernet is a local area technology, with networks traditionally operating within a single building, connecting devices in close proximity. At best, devices could only have a few hundred meters of cable between them, making it impractical to connect geographically dispersed locations. Today, Ethernet is the most widely implemented local area network (LAN) technology, utilizing CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection) access method to handle simultaneous access from the devices in the network. As consumers demand faster speeds and performance, Ethernet has developed from 10Base-T through to 1Gbit and now 10Gbit. Ideally, this technology should provide a smooth upgrade path, be cost effective and not require retraining. 10Gbit gives Ethernet based networks ability to contend with some established WAN (Wide Area networks)/MAN (Metro Area network) technologies such as packet over SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) and ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) over high-speed OC/synchronous transfer mode circuits (see diagram below). 10Gbit technology is predominantly used at the backbone core of the network and server level. SaRonix has developed a comprehensive product offering in both package style and performance, to meet a number of 10G applications. Our SEL381X SEL381X series offers a LVPECL differential output and SONET minimum clock compliant stability (±20ppm/0-+70°C) in a compact package, and balances jitter performance with cost, thereby enabling lower-cost solutions for applications less sensitive to jitter. The SDS381X SDS381X is a world-class crystal clock oscillator with true LVDS compliant output. Offering an excellent frequency range, its compact 5x7 ceramic package consumes less than 25mA current at any specified frequency. This oscillator is directly compatible with chipsets specifying LVDS input clock signals, now being used in high-speed network processors. Our SEL383X SEL383X is SaRonix more recent addition to the portfolio. With LVPECL logic, it offers improved jitter performance ideal for routers applications. For the ultimate in performance, SaRonix SEL393X SEL393X series provides a direct fixed frequency output in a sturdy FR4 (9x14mm) package, replacing legacy plastic-molded package products. This innovation enables more efficient, automated oscillator assembly, translating into direct savings. This series is ideal for jitter sensitive networking routers and telecom routers as well as highspeed servers. Key Benefits Tight frequency stability over all operating conditions, including aging. LVDS output enables 75% less power consumption over LVPECL. SONET minimum clock stability compliant (±20ppm). Cost competitive against competitors' equivalent product.
