Unobtrusive Convenience in Board Health and Status Maintenance PTN3500/PTN3501 PTN3500/PTN3501 Maintenance and Control ICs FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The PTN3500 PTN3500 and PTN3501 PTN3501 both combine functions of I2C I/O expansion with serial E2PROM memory in a single device, providing multi-card systems with a convenient means to maintain and control individual board status and health. These devices offer integration advantages wherever I2C I/O expansion is used in combination with serial E2PROM such as in board identification, diagnostic and configuration applications. ADVANTAGES · · PTN3500 PTN3500 Maintenance and Control IC General-purpose I/Os and non-volatile memory on a single device Internal 256x8 E2PROM with self-timed write cycle · Hardware address programming allows multiple devices on the same I2C bus (up to 8 for PTN3500 PTN3500, or up to 64 for PTN3501 PTN3501) · Low voltage operation and low power consumption · Compatible with PCF8574 PCF8574 pin-out · Available in 16-pin SO and 16 or 20-pin TSSOP packages APPLICATIONS · Multi-card systems in Telecom, Networking and Base Station Infrastructure Equipment · Board version tracking and configuration · Board health monitoring and status reporting · Field recall and troubleshooting functions for installed boards · General-purpose integrated I/O plus memory function Backplane PTN3500 PTN3500 PTN3501 PTN3501 Maintenance and Control ICs Line Card #N Main or Central Processing Board Line Card #1 A central processor, typically located on the system main board, can use the 400kbps I2C bus to poll the PTN3500/01 PTN3500/01 for status or version control type of information. The PTN3500/01 PTN3500/01 may be programmed at manufacturing time to store information regarding board build, firmware version, manufacturer identification, configuration option data and the like. Alternately, these devices can be used as a convenient interface for board configuration, thereby utilizing the I2C bus as an intra-system communication bus. For communication speed requirements beyond PTN3500/01 PTN3500/01's 400kbps, ask about Philips Semiconductors products incorporating the high-speed 3.4 Mbps I2C standard. 8-Bit I/O Port For more information, contact your Philips Semiconductors distributor or www.philipslogic.com North America Tel: 1 800 234-7381 Internet: www.philipslogic.com Europe Fax: +31 79 3685126 Asia Fax: 886 2 2134-2941 Japan/Korea Fax: +81-3-3740-5057 Internet (in Japanese): www.philips.co.jp/semicon/ ©Philips Electronics N.V. 2000 All rights reserved.
