The PC87360EB PC87360EB provides most of the I/O functionality commonly found on PC motherboards, with additional advanced features including: · · · · · · · · · 1.2 LPC bus interface. Two Fan Speed Control and Monitoring Interfaces (FSCM). Blinking LEDs. Floppy Disk Controller (FDC). Two serial ports. One IEEE 1284 compatible parallel port (ECP/EPP). Keyboard Controller (KBC) (8042, PS/2 compatible). PS/2 mouse support. General purpose I/O ports. SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual OVERVIEW 1-1 1.3 BOARD FEATURES This board provides a simple, easy-to-use, evaluation board for the 128-pin PC87360 PC87360 SuperI/O. It supports a selected group of features. · LPC Interface The LPC connector enables you to connect the PC87360EB PC87360EB to any motherboard with a corresponding slot, and use the LPC bus. · Fan Speed Control and Monitoring The board includes two fan speed control and monitoring circuits for external fans. Two connectors are provided. · Blinking LEDs An option of two separate LEDs, or one bi-color LED. · General Purpose I/O Ports Headers for accessing most GPIO Ports. · Keyboard/Mouse Interface A Keyboard and Mouse can be connected through these connectors (direct to KBCLK, KBDAT, MCLK, MDAT). The connectors are MINI-DIN6 (typical PS/2 style). · Floppy Disk Drive (FDD) Interface A dual-row 34-pin header is used to connect to a Floppy Disk Drive. The connection scheme for the header is standard. · Parallel Port Interface A dual-row 26-pin header can be connected by cable to a DB25 connector, to connect the board to any IEEE 1284 compliant peripheral device. The connection scheme is an industry standard. The ECP termination scheme is a National Semiconductor standard. PC87360EB PC87360EB Board Block Diagram SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual OVERVIEW 1-3 Chapter 2 INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION 2.1 INTRODUCTION The PC87360EB PC87360EB board is mounted on the LPC bus. This chapter describes the unpacking and installation of the PC87360EB PC87360EB. 2.2 UNPACKING The PC87360EB PC87360EB package contains the following items. As you unpack, verify that all the items are present. 1. One PC87360EB PC87360EB Board. 2. PC87360 PC87360 Datasheet. 3. PC87360EB PC87360EB Reference Manual (this document). 4. One bracket with Parallel Port cable adaptor, IDC26 IDC26 to DB25, and Game Port cable adaptor, IDC16 IDC16 to DB15. 5. One PC87360EB-to-motherboard ATX power cable. 6. Two Serial Port cables, IDC10 IDC10 to DB9. 7. One 3.5" disk containing EASYREG software. This configuration software is fully documented in README and HELP files on the disk. 8. PC87360EB PC87360EB Release Letter. Note 2.3 The PC87360EB PC87360EB contains CMOS devices, which are sensitive to static electricity. Take precautions against static electricity when unpacking and handling the board. BOARD INSTALLATION After unpacking: 1. Plug the board into the LPC connector on your motherboard, or use National's PC8736X-BRG PC8736X-BRG, ISA-to-LPC Bridge. Disconnect the ATX power supply cable from the motherboard and connect it to the PC87360EB PC87360EB connector marked POWER (J16). 3. Connect one end of the power cable (supplied) to the connector marked MB (J17) on the PC87360EB PC87360EB. Connect the other end to the motherboard's power connector. 4. Make sure that the base address jumper setting is correct. For detailed information regarding the jumpers and their settings, see the following sections. 5. Power up your PC. 2.4 HARDWARE CONFIGURATION This section describes each jumper in detail. 2.4.1 JP1 - VBAT To maintain the contents of the wake-up registers during a power failure, connect the VSB pin of the PC87360 PC87360 chip to an external 3V battery. JP1 connects the VBAT pin to an external battery, or to GND. This jumper can also be used to measure battery current consumption by connecting an Amperemeter. Up - VBAT is connected to battery. (default) Down - VBAT is connected to GND. Open - VBAT is unconnected. 2-2 INSTALlATION AND CONFIGURATION SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual 2.4.2 JP2 - Base Address Configuration The PC87360 PC87360 can be configured to two possible base addresses. The base address is determined by the state of JP1 during power-up, or reset. Closed - Base address is 4E. Open - Base address is 2E. 2.5 SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION You can use the EASYREG chip configuration program to configure the onboard PC87360 PC87360. SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual INSTALlATION AND CONFIGURATION 2-3 Chapter 3 THEORY OF OPERATION 3.1 LPC EDGE CONNECTOR The LPC connector connects the PC87360 PC87360 LPC bus signals directly to the LPC device bus master. This connector also supplies the 3.3V standby power to the PC87360EB PC87360EB. In addition, the GATEA20 GATEA20 and the KBRESET signals are also present to enable the use of the on-board keyboard connector (J15). 3.2 POWER CONTROL The PC87360 PC87360 chip requires a 3.3V power supply, VDD3.3V. In addition, you can configure the chip to operate in standby mode. In this mode, the chip requires an independent 3.3V supply, VSB3.3V. In addition, the board has a 3V battery (VBAT). The PC87360EB PC87360EB uses 5V, 12V, -5V, and -12V which are not required directly by the chip, but serve various on-board components. You can use the PC87360EB PC87360EB to evaluate the power control features of the PC87360 PC87360 chip. Connect power to the motherboard through the PC87360EB PC87360EB using the two on-board ATX power connectors. y Power Suppl PC87360EB PC87360EB Motherboard SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual THEORY OF OPERATION 3-1 3.3 FAN CONTROL CIRCUIT The PC87360 PC87360 chip includes a fan control module. This module supports three fans (this board supports two) with an input pin and an output pin for each fan. The PC87360 PC87360 generates a PWM signal, at the fan output pin, with a predefined frequency and width, and receives the fan speed through the fan input pin. This input is generated from the fan tachometer output. Figure 3-1 shows the circuit. Fan Control Circuit 3-2 THEORY OF OPERATION SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual 3.4 BLINKING LEDS The PC87360 PC87360 has two blinking LED outputs, with configurable blink frequencies and duty cycles. The PC87360EB PC87360EB supports two different LED types: one bi-colored LED for both outputs, or two separate standard LEDs - one for each LED output. LED2 LED1 Figure 3-3. Blinking LEDs: Option Two 3.5 KEYBOARD AND MOUSE CONNECTORS The PC87360 PC87360 chip interfaces directly with a keyboard and PS/2 type mouse. Signals KBCLK, KBDAT, MCLK and MDAT are connected to mouse and keyboard connectors (MINI-DIN6). Standard protection and anti-noise circuits are provided. The connectors are located at the top-end of the board. 3.6 DUAL-ROW 34-PIN 34-PIN HEADER FOR FLOPPY DISC DRIVE (FDD) The board features a header to connect the PC87360 PC87360 to up to two FDD drives. The header pinout is standard. Standard types of pull-ups are used (1 KOhm). 3.7 DUAL-ROW 26-PIN 26-PIN HEADER FOR PARALLEL PORT The parallel port (IEEE 1284 compatible), is connected to a dual-row 26-pin header via ECP terminations. A flat cable with a DB25 female connector is supplied to connect any parallel device. 3.8 TWO DUAL-ROW 10-PIN 10-PIN SERIAL CONNECTORS Serial ports 1 and 2 are each connected through an RS-232 RS-232 transceiver to a dual-row 10-pin header. The RI1 and RI2 inputs of the serial ports are connected to a separate low-power receiver that is connected to the Vsb power net so the "wake on RI" feature can be implemented. 3-4 THEORY OF OPERATION SuperI/O PC87360 PC87360 Evaluation Board Reference Manual Chapter 4 SPECIFICATIONS 4.1 PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS The 4-layer PC87360EB PC87360EB measures 140 mm x 96 mm. The board is designed to be used in a laboratory environment.
