Electronic Drive Solution for LED Bulb Applications Designing LED replacement bulbs typically requires four different design
Nuventix and National Semiconductor Thermal and Electronic Drive Solution for LED Bulb Applications Designing LED replacement bulbs typically requires four different design components: the LED, electronic drive, thermal, and optical solutions. Integrating these design components to provide an efficient and high performance LED replacement bulb can be challenging. National Semiconductor has developed an LED driver reference design to work with the Nuventix SynJet® LED cooling module. The National and Nuventix system incorporates the thermal and electronic drive solutions for LED replacement bulb applications. This reference design is ideal for any LED application that runs off of a 12V or 24V rail. Thermal Solution: The Nuventix SynJet LED Cooling Module · The Nuventix developed SynJet module is a synthetic jet cooling technology that utilizes turbulent pulses of air generated from an electromagnetic actuator to reliably and efficiently cool LEDs · The SynJet module serves as the cooling element for an LED luminaire or bulb replacement for the standard MR16, PAR20 PAR20, PAR25 PAR25, PAR30 PAR30 or PAR 38 form factors Figure 1. The Nuventix SynJet Cooling Module Electronic Drive Solution: The National Semiconductor LM3429 LM3429 LED Driver · The luminaire incorporating the Nuventix SynJet module also requires an electronic drive board to drive the LEDs and provide an appropriate voltage to drive the electromagnetic actuator The National Semiconductor electronic drive solution features: · The LM3429 LM3429 buck-boost LED driver: Allows input voltage capability of 9V-36V to accommodate 12V and 24V voltage rails for a variety of applications Drives 1-12 series connected LEDs up to 1A Enables analog dimming capability of 0 mA to 1A with a potentiometer or 1V to 10V dimming · The LM2842 LM2842 voltage regulator provides a regulated 5V power supply to the SynJet actuator Figure 2.
