OC-12/OC-48/OC-192 OC-12/OC-48/OC-192 SerDes Transceiver with Amplif-Eye3TM M 2 7 2 1 8 Octal SkyRailTM The M27218 M27218 from Mindspeed TechnologiesTM is a lowpower, high-density, eight-channel SerDes transceiver capable of operating from 400 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps. The M27218 M27218 has been optimized for telecom applications that require serial LVDS (SLVDS)/CML interface to operate at 2.488 Gbps (OC-48 OC-48) or 622 Mbps (OC-12 OC-12). Many system line cards, switch cards, and port cards in use today are designed with parallel LVDS (PLVDS) interfaces running un-encoded or unscrambled data through the backplane. As data throughput requirements increase, system vendors are challenged to upgrade existing equipment without forcing customers to replace their line cards, port cards or entire systems. The integration of today's un-encoded traffic with high-speed serial traffic has proven to be a major obstacle for systems designers. Mindspeed's M27218 M27218 solves these problems by providing a seamless upgrade from PLVDS backplanes to highspeed SLVDS/CML in a single device. System designers are able to provide a cost effective means of upgrading their customer's systems with a 4X increase in data throughput. Customers are able to preserve their investments in existing equipment and maintain software compatibility. The device integrates eight serial SLVDS/CML transmitters and eight serial receivers that can adapt and interface to LVDS or CML/LVPECL inputs/outputs. It also integrates 32 parallel LVDS (PLVDS) transmitters and 32 parallel receivers, selectable 4:1/1:4, 2:1/1:2 and 1:1 serializer and de-serializer functions, clock and data recovery, synthesis circuitry, termination resistors and de-skew buffers. The M27218 M27218 high-speed SLVDS/CML receivers include equalizers to further improve signal integrity over highly attenuated backplanes.
