Metal enclosure for lower emissions and ESD F inisar's new family of FTRX transceiver modules are stateof-the-art components designed expressly for the building of bi-directional communication links that require data rates up to 10.3 Gb/s. These modules will find application in SONET as well as 10 Gigabit Ethernet, both LAN PHY and WAN PHY. Finisar has achieved a major cost breakthrough by finding a way to directly modulate a longwave laser at speeds up to 10.3 Gb/s. Until now, such high-speed transceivers had to use an externally-modulated laser, adding cost and complexity to the transceiver. These transceivers comply with the 10 Gigabit Ethernet IEEE P802.3ae Specifications, Draft 2.1. Both LAN PHY (10.3125 Gb/s) and WAN PHY (9.95 Gb/s) speeds are supported. In addition, these transceivers comply with the 300-pin MSA form factor, which is commonly used in implementing OC-192 OC-192 applications. The electrical interface is 300-pin, XBI/OIF compatible, where 16-wide full-duplex data and clock lines are compliant with LVDS signal levels. Typically, these transceivers dissipate less than 2.75 watts-almost half the power consumed by comparable SONET transceivers available in the market today. The module's metal enclosure not only makes them sturdier, but also improves the transceiver's FCC test margins. This emissions and ESD control is particularly important in applications with large capacity switches and cross-connects.
